ABOUT THE EVENT /

SOTOL + MUSIC + FOOD + FRIENDS

Sotol is trending. If you haven't heard of this Mexican spirit you soon will! On April 12-13, 2019 we are putting on the world's first Sotol Festival - a gathering of people on both sides of the border. The modest festival begins on Friday (12th) at La Kiva in Terlingua with sotol + food + music from local artists. On Saturday morning (13th) things get interesting when we move the party across the border to Boquillas, Mexico to celebrate unity + peace + dignity + respect along this little stretch mark on the belly of mother earth. #Enjoy some one-of-kind sotol + food + music in this amazing community. At 3pm our sotol caravan will head back to La Kiva where the party continues with some amazing bands including our headliner Mike and the Moonpies.

We've decided to make the event FREE for the community and open to everyone. Hope you can join us friendos!

MUSIC /

Mike and the Moonpies

Their new album Steak Night at the Praire Rose was picked by Rolling Stone as one of the most anticipated country albums of 2018. Arguably, one of the best live country bands in America, Mike and Moonpies will headline the inaugural Sotol Fest on April 13, 9:00pm... Bring your dancin' shoes!

The Doodlin' Hogwallops

The foremost honky tonk band of the Trans-Pecos region...globally minded, locally detailed...non-gmo cornfed redneck rock...more to come... The Hogwallops keep things rockin Saturday night at 7:00pm!

The Pinche' Gringos

PinCHe GriNGoS, AKA LoS PinCHeS GriNGoS deL NoRTe, are four VaTOs gÜeROs from remote Terlingua, Texas who have over 15 years evolved a unique border sound that is muy Mexicano but at the drop of the hat turns to Beatles, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix,  Merle Haggard,  and James Brown for inspiration.  Pinche Gringos kick things off Saturday at 5:00pm!

Sarah Burton

Rooted in folk, and skirting pop, rock and country – Sarah’s music is a collage of her own adventures, and the people she meets along the way. Her songs have made their way to the big screen, earned college radio charting in US and Canada and commercial radio play in Canada and Europe. Sarah will play Friday night -- maybe with a special guest or two!

Marc Utter

Many Central Texans have seen Marc play with the Austin- based, Strings Attached. Several years ago Marc settled in Terlingua and continues to write great songs. Fun fact: Marc can also sing like a bird - just saying. Marc will perform with Kinky Freedom band Friday night.

Scott Walker

Scott is a singer/songwriter from East Texas. Scott plays several instruments and has performed in many different bands. He moved to Terlingua two years ago where he and his wife Missy are building Crazy Rock Studios. Scott's new album, The Rock House Project, is due for release in the fall. You can see Scott play with Kinky Freedom Friday night at the Fest!

Jeff Haislip

You'd be hard pressed to find a bigger character in Terlingua than Jeff Haislip. The Founder of the International event VOICES FROM BOTH SIDES, Jeff's unique style and voice are something special to hear. Jeff will be part of Kinky Freedom Friday night on the big stage. It's Truck Month!

Tim Relleva

A long time ago a pack of hungry wolves stumbled upon a baby songwriter, they considered eating him but instead raised him so he could grow up, howl at the moon and release 3 exciting albums , Superwave, Bus to Nowhere, and Smoke, available everywhere! Tim opens the festival at 4:00pm on Friday!

CHET O'KEEFE

Terlingua favorite and all around nice dude, Chet O'keefe, joins Kinky Freedom band Friday night on the big stage.

ORGANIZERS /

Jeff sipped his first sotol in the hills north of Paquime in northern Chihuahua more than 25 years ago - back when it was illegal to produce. He's never met a sotol he didn't like.
Anna was introduced to sotol nearly twenty years ago when she moved from Seattle to Baton Rouge. Having now lived in the northern Chihuahuan Desert for almost 10 years, sotol is her spirit of choice - just sayin.
Never to shy away from anything, Tony has embraced everything, north and south of the border. He forgot he ever even knew tequila the day he met sotol.
Master Electrician, Josh, sure can light up a room. He has also has been known to travel all the way from Ft. Worth to Ojinaga, MX just to pick up a bottle of Peñafiel to mix up the perfect Dirty Rancher.
For more than two decades, Jim helped organize and run the world-famous Terlingua chili cook off. He has something to say about sotol, just ask him.
One of the most eccentric and well-known characters this side of the Pecos, Johnny easily sips sotol while moving between photo shoots and junk yards. You heard us!
Sandro makes his home along the borderlands teaching adobe building and what he knows of the region. Sandro moves constantly. He has to, because the border is vast. Our border is beautiful and delicious and he wants to share all about what he knows best: Adobe heritage, food culture & Sotol.
